       TELECARE - HISTORY

Telecare Lindsay was started by a group of lay people from the Lindsay, Ontario area churches. The leadership for its impetus came from Queen St. United Church. The first training session was completed in the winter of 1973 and the center was open to receive its first call on March 4, 1973. During the first years it operated as a Distress Centre and Information Centre. As more mental health and family related support groups and telephone numbers became available, Telecare changed its direction. Presently the centre serves as a Distress Centre and telephone support group to many individuals who receive a call from Telecare every day. If you or anyone you know might benefit from receiving a "re-assurance" call from Telecare, please call us at 705-878-4411.
